Fontana de la Tartarughe

I like going for walks around the city of Rome, there is so much to see and sometimes I find fountains, neighborhoods that are enchanting. On wednesday I took a walk to the the church of St. Lawrence and on my walk I came to a beautiful fountain. The Fontana delle Tatarughe. One of the most secret fountains from the Renaissance. Like all Renaissance fountains, this was designed to supply drinking water to the Roman population. It was one of a group of eighteen new fountains built in Rome in the sixteenth century following the restoration of a ruined first century Roman acqueduct, the Acqua Vergine, by Pope Gregory XIII.
